The Indiana State Senate Democrat and Republican Caucuses offer legislative, legal, communications, and information technology internships, all of which provide paid, hands-on experience in the state legislature. These spring semester positions can be taken for college credit and offer a variety of scholarship and networking opportunities.

The health and safety of our interns, staff, and the public is of paramount importance. Although on-site work is considered the default manner of work, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there may be a combination of both on-site and remote work, depending on health metrics and trends, and after reviewing information from health authorities. Details will be established closer to the start of the internship and shared with all interns.


Qualifications


The internship runs from the end of December 2020 through the end of April 2021, and requires all interns to work 35+ hours a week at the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis. Applicants must be at least a sophomore in college, demonstrate strong writing and interpersonal skills, project a positive attitude, and be willing to work in fast-paced environment. Responsibilities


Daily responsibilities for legislative interns who are paired with one to two Senators include staffing committee meetings; tracking legislation; responding to constituent questions and correspondence; researching various issues; helping maintain the office schedule; and more.
