Job Description


The After-school Programs intern will assist with the development and/or implementation of programs and materials for the museum’s after-school program. The intern will work directly with children.


Have completed at least one year of college. Have experience working with elementary age children. Have an academic background in social work, education, family studies, museum studies, child development, psychology, or a related field. Have good oral and written communication skills. Have excellent customer service skills. Have excellent organizational and research skills. Have web researching skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic. Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Be available for the program hours – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6:30 p.m.


Assisting program instructors with implementing daily lessons, projects, museum visits, library visits, and day-to-day operations for the museum’s on-site afterschool program for grades 3-5. Developing and facilitating lessons and activities for students enrolled in the after-school program. Planning and developing activities for family night events. Assisting with the evaluation efforts for the program. Could include interviewing participants, monitoring progress on projects, and entering data. Assisting with documenting the program through videos and photographs. Assisting with the development of the program newsletter. Assisting with other department projects and events as needed.
